Waupaca Police: Suspect called 911 saying he shot his girlfriend

WAUPACA (NBC 26) -- Waupaca Police said they got a 911 call Monday night from a person stating he shot his girlfriend.

Police said responding units located the caller's vehicle north of Waupaca. Police said the suspect fled, resulting in a car chase. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief standoff with officers, police said in a news release.

Officers found a person at a Waupaca home with a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital and flown to Theda Care of Neenah. Police said in the news release her condition is unknown.

Police said officers are still investigating the case and they don't believe the public is in any danger.
