LAKE GENEVA -- Before sunrise Monday morning, the streets in Lake Geneva were a picturesque winter wonderland.
Just four days after Thanksgiving, the snow blanketed resort town is primed and ready for a Christmas card.
"We're enjoying the scenery and the snow," Al Koch from Oostburg said.
Koch and his wife Mary are in town for their anniversary. They got out early Monday morning to enjoy the white addition to the decorations on Main Street. Nothing would stop them from enjoying their special day.
"We're living in Wisconsin," Mary said. "We know what it's like. No big surprises."
Kevin Fleming had an unwelcome surprise Monday. When he went outside, ready to clear his driveway and sidewalk of nearly 12 inches of snow, he tried to fire up his snow blower.
Nothing.
"Everything was going well until I tried to start the snow blower," Fleming said. "Needless to say, it was not a good move. My wife wasn't too happy about that."
Fleming was forced to do it the old-fashioned way. With his trusty blue shovel in hand, he pushed the heavy, wet snow off to the side. He took his time to make sure he didn't get too winded.
"Taking more breaks," Fleming said. "As you get older, you got to watch your back."
The disparity in snow totals was dramatic. Just a few miles away in Elkhorn, they didn't get hit nearly as hard.
"Golly, we ran to Lake Geneva to go to Target around 1:00 and it was blizzard like down there," Stacey Whiteman of Elkhorn said. "But Elkhorn didn't get anything, golly, until 3:30-4:00. It was crazy down there. Shocking."
Regardless of the total, Whiteman said it was tough to shovel.
"It's heavy and I shouldn't have gotten my cardio workout before coming to work," Whiteman said. "This is early This is way early for this cold weather and snow."
