The UW-Madison says one student has been hospitalized due to complications from the coronavirus.

The university did not offer any details on the patient, as students and staff are not required to disclose if they are hospitalized or to provide updates on their condition. But the UW-Madison says they will report any hospitalizations they are aware of on their COVID-19 dashboard.

Regarding the hospitalization, UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank released the following statement:

"This should serve as a reminder to all of our students that COVID-19 can have serious complications no matter what age you are... It’s incredibly important for everyone to follow the public health guidelines.”

The UW-Madison added in a release Wednesday that it tallied 11 new positive tests on campus - 10 students and one employee.

That's in addition to 35 students and another employee testing positive off campus.

The university's COVID-19 dashboard shows that Wednesday's percent of positive cases for students sits at 2.8 percent, while the seven-day percent positive rate for students tested on campus is at 9.6 percent.

A ban on in-person classes on the university's campus remains in effect, and is still due to expire on Sept. 25. The decision was made by UW-Madison officials to halt the spiraling numbers of COVID-19 cases among students on campus.
