MANITOWOC (NBC 26) -- Two teenagers are facing charges for two separate cases of making threats in Manitowoc.
The Manitowoc Police Department said Tuesday that a school threat and separate social media threat were investigated this past weekend. Despite the cases, police say they have found "no credible threat of school violence".
The first threat involved a 17-year-old girl who was accused of writing a threat in the sand near Red Arrow Park. Police say the girl thought the threat would be washed away by the lake, but someone else saw the message, took a picture of it before it washed away and shared it on social media.
Police investigated this threat and were satisfied that it was not credible. Police say charges are being referred to the District Attorney’s Office against the girl identified as writing the message.
The second threat a Person-To-Person Threat was made via social media this weekend. Police say this threat was unrelated to the previous incident and unrelated to the school district. While police say it wasn't related to the school district, police say this threat, shared via social media, still caused concerns by several parents and students attending the Manitowoc Public School District.
While not releasing specific details, police called the threat "highly inappropriate in nature", but it did not include threats involving school violence. Police say due to this investigation, charges are being forwarded to the Manitowoc County Department of Human Services (DHS) on a 16-year-old boy.
Police say the Manitowoc Public School District was also made aware of this investigation so that they can monitor future contact between the subjects involved.
