OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — Law enforcement said two boats crashed into each other on Lake Butte des Morts around 9 p.m. Saturday.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office said a 26-foot Glastron boat with six people on board was experiencing mechanical issues and was traveling slowly toward Rainbow Park. On its way to shore the boat was struck by a 17-foot Lund boat with two people on board headed in the same direction.
Officers said all eight people were brought to shore by first responders and private vessels that stopped to assist. Three were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to officials, both boat drivers were arrested for operating a motorboat while intoxicated.
The Sheriff's Office said the damaged boats were towed to shore and remained merged together due to the impact.
