One person died while trying to help someone stalled on the side of the road, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday afternoon, the Sheriff's Office says a vehicle hit a pedestrian attending to a stalled vehicle alongside the northbound lanes of I-41 near Oneida Street.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was treated for injuries.

The Sheriff's Office says pedestrian ventured out into the lanes of traffic before being struck.

At this time, no one is facing charges, but the crash is being investigated. The Sheriff's Office says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.

All lanes of northbound I-41 will be shut down for 3 to 4 hours due to a critical accident, Brown County Public Safety says.

Lanes will be shut down from Main St. in De Pere to North of Oneida St.
