TikTok video from Outagamie County on recycling Christmas lights goes viral

APPLETON (NBC 26) — A TikTok video about recycling Christmas lights has gone viral.

Outagamie County Recycling & Solid Waste posted the video to their TikTok account two days ago. As of Wednesday afternoon, the video has received approximately 333,000 likes, 2,718 comments, and 6,810 shares.

The video shows a worker, Philthy Philm, removing Christmas lights from a machine and angrily throwing the lights in the dumpster.

"#Holiday #lights are a #tangler 🚫 and do NOT go in your #recycling cart! Bring them to a drop-off location♻️" the video caption reads.

According to the Recycling & Solid Waste Program Coordinator, the machine in the video is Disc Screen Separator, which is meant to separate fiber materials from containers.
