OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- Three people were taken to the hospital following a duplex fire Thursday morning.

The Oshkosh Fire Department says crews responded to a duplex on 1022 Jackson, where flames and smoke were seen coming out of the north side of the building.

The upstairs unit had six people living in it, the fire department says. Four of these people were home at the time of the fire. Three of them were taken to a local hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation.

The department also says there were two dogs in the building at the time of the fire, but they got out safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
