Suspect in 1976 double murder bound for trial

MARINETTE COUNTY — The case of a man accused of killing a young Green Bay couple at a campsite back in the 1970s will move forward to trial.

Online court records show the court finds probable cause and binds Raymand L. Vannieuwenhoven over for trial.

Ray Vannieuwenhoven is accused of shooting and killing David Schuldes and Ellen Matheys in McClintock Park on July 9, 1976. Vannieuwenhoven is also accused of raping Ellen Matheys before killing her.

Vannieuwenhoven faces two counts of First Degree Murder and one count First Degree Sexual Assault. Vannieuwenhoven's arraignment is scheduled for July 1.
