STURGEON BAY (NBC26) -- Destination Sturgeon Bay has a new way for people to celebrate Halloween this year.
The group's annual Thrills on Third event has been transformed into a Spooktacular Scavenger Hunt around downtown.
Starting Oct. 5 people can be on the lookout for Simon the Sturgeon in the window of 45 local businesses. He will be dressed in one of 15 different Halloween costumes.
Carly Sarkis, marketing and events director for Destination Sturgeon Bay, said the event is meant to provide a safe Halloween activity for kids amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our communities are struggling right now. Our kids are struggling," Sarkis said. "So we want to make sure that our organization can provide some sort of happiness to our local residents.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there won't be a kids parade, haunted house or slime making.
People can get a scavenger hunt map at the Destination Sturgeon Bay Welcome Center, 36 S. Third Ave. The map can be returned through Nov. 6. Prizes will be given out the Monday after Halloween.
