OCONTO COUNTY (NBC 26) — Several Oconto County roads are still closed following flooding brought on by a torrential downpour late last week.

Oconto County officials said in a statement Monday that current road closings are still in effect until further notice:

  • Brock Road, Town of Maple Valley
  • CTH B, from west CTH A to west CTH M, Town of Spruce
  • CTH A, from Buseman Road to CTH G, Town of Maple Valley

CTH B and CTH A will be extended closures. Oconto County Emergency Management and the sheriff's office said it's expected to take longer than a few weeks to reopen the roads.
Damage and cost estimates are still being completed as water levels recede, county officials said. The public is advised to continue to avoid water-hazard flooded areas. Do not drive into flooded roadways or around barricades.

Last week's flooding also brought concerns about private well water contamination.

The Public Health Division of the Oconto County Health and Human Services Department will distribute free well water test kits to residents affected by flooding at the Spruce Town Hall on Tuesday, May 17, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 18, at the Oconto County Courthouse, Building C, 1st floor inside the visitor parking lot entrance from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
