FAITHORN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Menominee County Sheriff's Office says a Green Bay man drowned while trying to load a fishing boat on Sunday.

Crews responded to Sturgeon Bend Camp Ground around 11 a.m. where the Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Bryan Douglas Bidwell drowned while trying to load a fishing boat onto a trailer at a boat landing on the Menominee River.

The Sheriff's Office says the boat broke loose and was swept away by the the current. Bidwell was trying to swim the boat back to the landing when he yelled out and disappeared under the water, the Sheriff's Office says.

At around 1 p.m. crews found Bidwell's body about 75 yards downstream from the boat launch, in 8 feet of water about 40 feet from shore, according to the Sheriff's Office.
