SHAWANO COUNTY (NBC 26) — The Shawano County Sheriff's Office says it believes alcohol was a contributing factor in a crash with serious injuries last night.

Deputies responded to a report of a crash between a semi and a car on Highway 29 at Clark Drive in the Town of Richmond around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators believe a car, driven by a 21 year old Waunakee man, carrying four people tried to cross Highway 29 in front of a semi driven by a 33 year old Wausau man, when the crash happened. The people were thrown from the car and many of them were severely injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash, the Sheriff's Office says. This incident is still under investigation and more details will be released at a later time.
