NEENAH, Wis. — Neenah Joint School District’s Board of Education has approved a referendum question for next year's ballot.

On April 2nd, residents will be asked to support a $129.5 million referendum for facilities improvements and a new middle school.

The School District finalized the referendum question at Tuesday's meeting.

In a news release, the School District says every District school building was originally constructed over 50 years ago and would get infrastructure upgrades funded by the referendum.

The final projects were determined by Board of Education priorities, the School District says, and results of a community survey conducted in September and October. Nearly 4,000 residents took the survey and 61 percent were in favor of replacing Shattuck.

The tax impact on a $100,000 home is estimated at an average of $167 per year. The District currently has no referendum debt and the lowest mill rate in the Fox Valley at $7.28 per $1,000 of home value. The referendum would push the mill rate to $8.95, which is still below the current state average of $9.45. The referendum will be the District’s first facilities referendum since 1995 and the first referendum of any kind since 2006.

Open houses to provide more details about the plan will be held on Feb. 20 at Shattuck, March 6 at the high school and March 20 at Shattuck. All of the open houses will begin at 6 p.m.
