CASCO, Wis. (NBC 26) — Deputies reported two people were sent to the hospital after their car crashed from hitting an icy portion of road Saturday just after 7 p.m.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened on STH 54 at South View Lane in the Town of Casco.

Deputies said a 2001 Chevy SUV was traveling westbound on STH 54 when it hit an ice patch on the road. The driver, a 54-year-old Forestville man, lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the road and crashed into the opposite ditch where it rolled numerous times, ejecting the man.

First responders said there was one passenger in the car, a 55-year-old Forestville woman, who was trapped after the vehicle rolled. The Luxemburg Fire Department helped in getting her out of the vehicle.

Deputies said both the driver and passenger were taken to the hospital. The driver sustained life threatening injuries while the passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation. No further information has been released at this time.
