ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (NBC 26) -- Human remains found in a van have been identified as a man missing since June.
The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that no foul play is suspected in the death of 66-year-old Jimmy Lee Willey. An endangered missing persons alert was issued back in June for Willey, who authorities say left his residence in the town of Beecher, Marinette County on June 6 and was last seen driving eastbound on Highway 2/41 east of the Island Resort and Casino in Harris, Michigan.
Michigan State Police contacted the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday to report Willey had been found dead inside his vehicle. The van was found stuck in a swampy remote trail off Chapel Road off County Road H58 in Munsing Township in Alger County, Michigan. A woman walking her dog discovered the vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office said Willey’s family has been notified.
While no foul play is suspected, the investigation is ongoing.
