GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- As gas prices have fallen across the country, Green Bay remains well below the national average as American oil drops to it's lowest cost since 2002.
Woodman's, found at 2400 Dousman St. in Green Bay, boasted one of the lowest price within city limits, at $1.75 per gallon of regular gas.
However, prices dropped even further to $1.59 just due south in Appleton.
Both of which are well under the national average that currently sits at $2.19 per gallon, the lowest since December 2016.
According to AAA, the price of gas has dropped below $2 per gallon in 12 states -- almost a quarter of the United States.
The price of gas has been on a steady decline for two reasons: an oil production war between Russia and Saudi Arabia, and the coronavirus pandemic. Both are sending ripple effects throughout the American economy. American oil barrels are down to their lowest price since February 2002.
In the past 14 days, the price of gas in the City of Green Bay has dropped more than 25 cents.
