GREEN BAY, Wis (NBC 26) -- Doctors say the long-lasting impacts of contracting COVID-19 might be more severe than initially thought. Prevea Health's CEO Dr. Ashok Rai says research has indicated that the virus could cause long term issues to not only the lungs but also the heart, kidneys and even the brain. Right now there is a growing concern that people who get COVID-19, potentially even minor cases, could have long-lasting impacts...

"It's that long term issue. What are your lungs going to be like in the future? What is your heart going to be like? What is your brain going to be like? What are your kidneys going to be like? That's the part that is extremely concerning especially in the younger population that may not take it as seriously, because they look at it as just a viral infection that they are going to get over," says Dr. Rai.

Prevea Health's CEO says it's tough to know the long term impacts of COVID-19 today, but recent research does suggest that blood clots caused by the virus can cause damage to several organs including the brain.
