LEDGEVIEW (NBC 26) -- A preliminary report on a fatal crash in the Ledgeview area says the pilot was concerned about wet turf before crashing.

The crash happened in the early evening of October 17th. Authorities said a small plane crashed into a pickup truck while trying to land at Martins Aerodome. The pilot died at the scene. The pickup driver died a few days later.

The new report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) says the pilot had previously left Martins Aerodome earlier in the morning and arrived at Brennand Airport in Neenah to meet with a mechanic to complete an annual inspection.

According to the NTSB report, the pilot mentioned to the mechanic that he was concerned about wet turf runway at Martins Aerodome and that he preferred to land near the end of the runway. According to witnesses cited by the NTSB, the plane was about 5 feet over the county highway adjacent to the end of runway 1 when crashed into the pickup. The truck left the road, entered a ditch, and came to a stop near a driveway.

The NTSB says an initial examination of the plane at the site of the crash did not show any anomalies with the airframe or engine.

This is a preliminary report from the NTSB and the final report has not yet been completed. The NTSB says the airplane is still being examined. Weather doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash. Click here to read the report.
