OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- Following an officer-involved shooting at Oshkosh West High School, students were evacuated, and parents rushed to meet with their children at a nearby middle school.

Hundreds of parents lined up around the school, waiting to be reunited with their children. The line wrapped around the building. Parents had to fill out a form and provide a photo ID before being allowed in.

About 1,700 students attend Oshkosh West High School. At around 11:30 a.m. the school let in about 20 parents at a time.

“Bottom line, one student was hurt, unfortunately, the other officer was hurt, unfortunately, but it could've been a lot worse,” said Stacy Ruedinger, whose son is a high school sophomore.

Around 1 p.m., staff ushered in pizza, water, snacks and blankets to help give the students still waiting for family a little extra comfort. Most of the parents NBC 26 spoke with say they are satisfied with how the school organized the students, the pickup, and the communication.
