GREEN BAY (NBC26) — As much as we hate to be reminded that the packers are not going to the Super Bowl, the big game is in less than two weeks.
Earlier this month, Coca Cola and Pepsi announced they would not be airing Super Bowl commercials. This week, Budweiser follows suit; in an announcement on Monday, Budweiser's parent company, Anheuser-Busch, announced it will instead put money toward COVID-19 vaccine awareness and education.
"I hadn't heard," said Geoffrey Johnson, a Packers fan. "But I think that's great. I mean, that's what we need right now."
"We want to go back to real life again, and real sports," agreed Maria Johnson. "If we can get as many people vaccinated as possible, my mom just got hers last week, so I'm all for it. Go for it."
Though it's hard to imagine a Super Bowl without some of our favorite commercials, Budweiser will be running ads digitally in the week leading up to the super bowl, celebrating acts of resilience and highlighting first-responders.
Donovan Jurss hopes more companies follow suit, he said.
"I think it's good, I think everybody should," said Jurss. "I think the commercials have gotten way out of hand. I mean, you're talking three or four million for 30 seconds, come on. If everybody did that, it'd be a good deal."
That does come at a price of its own. When it comes to Super Bowl commercials, these fans agree who makes the best, year after year.
"I think the one that sticks out to me is, after 911, with the Budweiser horses," said Jurss. "That's probably my favorite one."
"Budweiser, there's no doubt," said Maria Johnson. "Budweiser is by far the best. I would have to say, anything with the horses."
"I'm going to miss the Budweiser commercials," said Bronwyn Leask. "Every year, there's one that kind of just tugs at the heartstrings."
