GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Following the death of former Packers general manager Ted Thompson, fans share what they feel will be his lasting legacy.

Thompson, 68, diedWednesday. Some fans said they remember him as a quiet man who got things done, even if they didn't always agree with his decisions. Others said Thompson is the reason the Packers are the team people see today.

For one man, being a fan for the green and gold is a family affair.

"I'm a real Packers fan. My father was, and my brother and my kids," said Bruce Hamm, Rudolph.

The news of Thompson's passing struck a chord with Hamm, who said Thompson was very important in the Packers organization.

"He got the Packers where they are today, through the draft and undrafted. He really did a good job over the years and worked hard at it," Hamm said.

The loss was even more difficult for those that knew him on a more personal level.

"I went to his hall of fame banquet when he was inducted in. It was a special thing," said MJ Kapla, a former employee with the Green Bay Packers. "I'm sad to hear that he's passed."

Some fans didn't always agree with the moves Thompson made. Free agent signings were slim. But fans said his legacy is his numerous successes in the draft.

"I think the person’s legacy is kind of unknown at the time. It develops over time. So you might be disappointed at first, but as you see his players and draft picks play out you begin to appreciate more what he has done for the team," said Chuck Johnson, Germantown.

"I believe Ted Thompson's legacy continues with Aaron Rodgers," continued Jane Johnson. "Possibly Aaron will play harder than ever if he plays for (Thompson) this week. We trust that he will."

Others intend to carry Johnson's legacy through this weekend's NFC Championship game.

"Go Pack Go on Sunday for Ted!" Kapla said.
