OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oshkosh Area School District is ensuring that children are fed through its free meal program. However, the district is in need of financial donations to continue to provide free grab-and-go meals to families.
The district is seeking help from local businesses, community organizations, and individuals.
Donations can be made directly to the District, or tax-free donations can be made to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation as follows:
- Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Oshkosh Area School District, Attn: Business Office at 215 S Eagle Street, Oshkosh, WI 54902. Please indicate “Grab-and-Go Free Meal Program” when making a donation.
- Tax-free donations can be made to the OASD Education Foundation - Basic Needs Fund. Checks should be written out to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, with the “OASD Basic Needs Fund” written in the memo; and mailed or dropped off to 230 Ohio Street, Suite 100, Oshkosh, WI 54902. To make an electronic donation visit www.oshkoshareacf.org/fund/oshkosh-area-school-district-education-foundation-basic-needs-fund/
The funding will be used to cover the cost of the free Grab-and-Go Meal Program during the State’s public health emergency for those who are not OASD students. While the District receives federal funding for feeding students, it is not reimbursed for any meals given to a student’s parent/guardian or non-school-aged siblings.
The school district said it made the decision to provide free meals to entire families in need to ensure that children are not put in a position to divide the meal they receive.
The District will continue to provide free meals to non-students as long as funds, and food supplies, are available. Learn more here: OASD Free Meals During COVID-19 Pandemic
