OSHKOSH, Wis. — An Oshkosh man has been charged in connection with the death of a 10-month-old boy. 34-year-old Freddy Colon appeared in court Tuesday and was charged with reckless homicide.
Court paperwork says the baby's mother rented a room where the suspect lived, an apartment on the 800 block of Grove Street in Oshkosh.
Police say they were called to the apartment December 9th. Court paperwork says medical officials ruled there was evidence of child abuse and that the little boy's injuries could have been from shaking or slamming him.
On the day in question, court documents say the suspect admitted to being annoyed with the mother and baby all day, saying mom and the baby were making a lot of noise in the kitchen after he'd been out drinking the night before.
Court paperwork says the suspect's 4-year-old child told authorities that Colon spanked the baby when the mom went outside for a smoke.
Authorities say in the charging paperwork that the suspect's story changed, and at one point he allegedly said just because he was the only adult inside with the baby didn't mean he was responsible.
This is the second case in Oshkosh in two months where an adult is accused in the death of a baby. Police say the cases aren't related.
In that separate case, an Oshkosh father is charged with homicide in connection with his 7-week-old son's death. The criminal complaint states that father admitted to shaking his son.
