GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Sunday afternoon, community members had a chance to check out all of the new renovations within the Green Bay Area Public School District.

"I just really want to thank our community the support they've given us, this has been a game changer for Edison Middle School," said the school's principal Dan Slowey.

Edison is one of seven schools hosting open houses to show off updates made from the approved referendum in April 2017. The referendum of $68.5 million covered safety, security and space needs within the entire district, including building an entire new Baird Elementary School.

Principal Slowey gave us a tour of the newest additions at Edison. The school added about 8,000 square feet for a new cafeteria, and also remodeled classrooms and the kitchen. The school is the second largest within the district serving a little more than 1,200 kids.

"It was a very needed addition to allow space and serve the students to provide them meals," added Mike Stangel, the executive director of facilities for the district.

Construction is still going on at Jackson and Martin elementary schools. They're expected to be completed by mid-March.
