ONEIDA NATION (NBC 26) — The Oneida Nation announced this week at least 30 Oneida elders and veterans will receive communication devices thanks to a grant from Festival Foods.

The $15,000 grant will allow elders and veterans to receive communication devices and internet assistance. The Oneida Nation says Oneida Social Services will help select those who will receive devices, which will help them connect with family and keep their spirits up, especially during the holidays. It will also allow access to virtual programs, workshops and therapy.

“We have many elders who have not been able to share a hug with their loved ones, the hugs they need at this time," said Oneida Nation Vice Chairman Brandon Yellowbird-Stevens. "For nine months many have gone without being able to reach out and touch the hands or put their arms around their children and grandchildren. It’s impossible to replace family gatherings and celebrations, we need to surround them with some virtual love at this time.”

Festival Foods CEO Mark Skogen presented the check to purchase these devices to Vice Chairman Yellowbird-Stevens on Thursday morning.
