OCONTO (NBC 26) -- Oconto Unified School District will be closed on Friday, February 7th and Monday, February 10th, the school district announced today.
The closure is due to increased illness among students, faculty and staff.
The school district says custodial staff will continue their efforts to clean and disinfect common areas to help slow the spread of illness.
All high school extra-curricular activities will continue as scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Monday.
According to the superintendent, 30 percent of children were absent from the elementary school Thursday. During the weekend, maintenance will be disinfecting the building. Teachers will be in for half day Friday to help.
The superintendent says extra curricular activities will continue because there’s just one varsity event Friday and the high school absentee numbers have been lower. The elementary school has been the most impacted by illness.
School officials don't anticipate having to make up days, due to the lack of snow days used so far.
