GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Catholics across Northeast Wisconsin celebrated Palm Sunday over the weekend.

Many Catholics describe it as the beginning of the week that changed the world forever.

Deacon Jeff Pricket with Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Green Bay explains why this day is so meaningful for the Catholic community.

“Palm Sunday is the beginning of the holiest week of the year we as Catholics observe. It begins by observing Jesus triumphant entrance into Jerusalem but as we all know it, it ends us in a horrible tragedy and the purpose for us Catholics is to walk a journey with Christ all the way till Easter Sunday,” Pricket said.

Pricket explains what changes were made this year.

“Some of the parts of mass were removed that would be normal to Palm Sunday such as a procession that was eliminated. But other than having to have our pews distanced and having people spread out a little bit,” Pricket said.

He reflects what Palm Sunday looked like last year.

As many might recall, it was right during the start of the pandemic.

“There was nothing, there was no Palm Sunday we actually had all these palms and we actually couldn’t get it to people so there was no Palm Sunday, no Holy Week. Everything was done virtually,” Pricket said.
