The Shawano Police Department is getting a new K-9 dog, courtesy of the non-profit Crossroads K9 Rescue. The organization says the donation is a part of its Crossroads K-9s for Cops program.
The non-profit announced Monday it is donating K9 Thor to Shawano PD in in honor of fallen detective Jason Weiland. Weiland was a family member related to organizers of Crossroads K9.
Jason Weiland was working as an Everest Metro Police detective in March 2017 when he was shot and killed in the line of duty.
Crossroads K9 Rescue is an organization that rescues dogs from animal shelters and rehabilitates them to work as service dogs, search and rescue dogs, or police dogs. If the dogs don’t fit the standard for a working dog, the non-profit still works to find the animal a forever home.
