SUAMICO (NBC 26) -- The penguin chicks at the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park are ready for names!
NEW Zoo stated in a news release Wednesday that the two African penguin chicks are growing as they should and are currently in the process of molting into their first “swimming feathers.”
The two brothers were born in November and are nearly ready for swimming with the big birds, NEW Zoo says.
Zookeepers have narrowed down the choices to three sets of names:
- Clark & Eddie (from the movie A Christmas Vacation)
- Gilbert & Linus (in honor of the Zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. Gilbert)
- Raul & Marco (inspired by penguins in books & movies)
To choose a set of names, the public is asked to donate to a naming contest. The naming contest will raise money for African penguin conservation. Each dollar donated to penguin conservation will represent one vote for a set of names. Five dollars donated will represent five votes, and so on.
To make your donation and vote for your favorite set of names, click here.
Votes can also be cast by donating to conservation on-site at the Zoo’s Visitor Center building. Voting will remain open until February 10th, with winners announced February 12th.
