NEW LONDON (NBC 26) — While festivities for St. Patrick’s day continue to look a little different due to Covid-19, that didn't stop community members in New London from continuing a long-standing tradition and that's paining the town green.
Members part of the Shamrock Club decided they would turn the town of New London into “New Dublin” for the week.
They say with their community having a large Irish-American population, they saw painting shamrocks as an opportunity to celebrate their rich Irish heritage.

“We’ve been doing this for not for certain 38 years, painting the shamrocks and changing the town to New Dublin. Something to get the week going. Now with the virus and everything it changes the stuff but we can still move forward with the stuff we can safely do,” said Patrick Sullivan, New London.
Club members say this is the second year in a row they've had to make modifications to their St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
They say they're hoping next year brings them the luck of the Irish so they can hopefully bring back their parade and normal festivities.
