NORTHEAST WISCONSIN (NBC 26) -- A new state law will restrict the use of firefighting foam containing PFAS.
Northeast Wisconsin has been hit hard by groundwater contamination of the man-made chemicals.
This new law restricts the use of PFAS-containing firefighting foams to emergency firefighting operations or testing in an appropriately equipped facility.
If it is used in an emergency, the law requires fire departments notify the DNR. They will not be allowed to use pfas in training.
This law goes into effect Tuesday.
