APPLETON (NBC 26) — The Fox Cities will play host to another brand new music festival, organizers announced on St. Patrick’s Day.

The inaugural Irish Fest of the Fox Cities will be held the weekend of September 17th and 18th, 2021 at Jones Park in Downtown Appleton. Organizers of the new festival say this will be one of the very first events at the downtown park and new amphitheater, which was built and donated by Miron Construction in 2019.

Festival organizers say plans for Irish Fest have been in the works for almost three years. Initially, the festival was set to launch last year but was delayed due to the pandemic.

"So hopefully by September everyone will be ready to safely congregate and enjoy live music again,” said Matt Miller, festival organizer. “We are so grateful to be able to launch this year. The planning committee has been working tirelessly to schedule a great lineup of Irish and Celtic groups. It has been especially tough since many of the international bands are still in lock-down and unable to obtain travel visas. We hope to announce the full schedule very soon.”

Organizers say the festival will celebrate "everything Irish and Celtic in nature," including music, food, children’s activities and Gaelic sports.
