All Neenah Joint School District schools will be closed for a second straight day on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The closure is due to continued restoration of services following the technical security event that took place early on Monday morning. School will likely resume in person on Thursday, Jan. 13.

According to the district, the decision to cancel is based on three factors that the district believes need to be in place in order to safely and appropriately resume school: A working phone system, a working wireless system and staff access to their digital files. The district is confident that all three of those factors will be completed on Wednesday so that school may resume on Thursday.

District technology staff has been working around the clock since this incident was discovered to restore systems, according to a press release from the district.

"The restoration of our services is a deliberate process and we will not sacrifice our safety and security for speed," said Superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer. "Our digital forensics investigation with state and local law enforcement is continuing and we are pleased to report that there is still no evidence that any personal information has been compromised."

NEENAH, Wis. (NBC 26) — All Neenah Joint School District schools will be closed Tuesday due to a cyber security situation.

According to district officials, there was a potential unauthorized access to the school data system and caused an outage to the district's internet, phone systems, and several software applications.

The district says it has notified local and federal law enforcement as well as cyber security experts.

The district hopes to have phones and some systems restored so students and staff and return to school on Wednesday. Students will likely work in a non-digital environment possibly into next week.

The district says at this point they "have no reason to believe any confidential or personal information has been compromised." The investigation is ongoing.
