NEENAH (NBC 26) — Three people were taken to the hospital for evaluation after a hazmat incident at Galloway Company in Neenah.

Around noon Wednesday, Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue said it was dispatched to the plant for a medical call determined to be caused by a chemical inhalation.

It was discovered that chlorine had mixed with another chemical and caused a release of a chlorine-based gas. Three employees were taken to ThedaCare to be evaluated because they had been exposed.

The fire department evacuated the building, as well as a two block radius around the plant, mostly to the north because of the wind direction. Those evacuated were sent to the Red Cross Reception Center set up at Shattuck Middle School.

As of about 4 p.m., the HAZMAT incident commander was starting to allow people back into their homes.
