GREEN BAY, Wis. — Teams of volunteers came out to help the Greater Green Bay's Habitat for Humanity build homes for families in need.

On Wednesday, the women of NBC26 went out to help take part in building a home for the 2019 Women Build event. Organizers say there are 113 homes already built for those in need and four are in the process of being built.

Organizers say volunteers are really the backbone of the organization. They say it's an empowering event for women, with a hammer in one hand and a nail gun in the other.

"The more people we get to understand how much fun we have out here, how important it is to provide new housing for families, it's a win-win,” explains Cora Haltaufderheid, the Executive Director Greater Green Bay Habitat For Humanity.

“I always had a home growing up, same home growing up,” says future homeowner Sara Christiansen. “I still can go there, I wanted to provide my children with that.”
