GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Now is the time to clean out the medicine cabinet for National Drug Take Back Day.
People across the country, including here in Northeast Wisconsin, had the opportunity to drop off their unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs or over the counter medications.
HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital partnered up with Green Bay Police so that people could drop them off free of charge and anonymously.
“They get bagged up, taped up, and they are going to be brought to a hazardous waste company where they will incinerate them as waste. From there they serve as a fuel for cement kilns. Here we are taking them back so they don’t get thrown into the garbage,” said Jon Motquin, Hazardous Waste Facilitator.
If people missed Saturday’s event, they are encouraged to check in with local police departments. Many of them offer a safe place to drop off medications.
