GREEN BAY (NBC26) — Area health officials continue to see more progress being made with the COVID-19 vaccine in Northeast Wisconsin.

The Department of Health Services reported Friday over 3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Wisconsin so far. As of Friday, more than 2 million Wisconsin residents received at least one dose of the vaccine: That's nearly 36 percent of the the currently eligible population.

Data shows just over 36 percent of eligible residents in Brown County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. More than 23 percent of residents have completed the series.

Gregory Szatori, a volunteer with Bellin Health, got his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine Friday afternoon at the Lambeau Field vaccination site.

"I feel good," Szatori said. "(It's) just like any other vaccine, and I've had a few of them recently."

One Chicago area woman in town for her kids' hockey tryouts also got her first shot Friday at Lambeau.

Karen West said she was dining at the 1919 inside Lambeau when someone asked if she'd like to be vaccinated.

"Well they were taking walk-ins and it's hard to get appointments in Chicago, and since I was here my friend convinced me just to get it done," West said. "First shot done. So yeah, relieved, because it's a pain in the butt to get them done in Chicago."

West said she got her first dose of the Pfizer vaccine Friday. She said there's only one thing that scares her.

“My fear is that I’m going to turn into a Packers fan," West joked. "So I think I need to get my second one at Soldier Field."

Sherry LaFond, the Lambeau Field COVID-19 Community Vaccination Site coordinator, said staff has been vaccinating between 900 and 1,100 people a day.

"I think in the short run it's really just continuing to work through making sure we're being very efficient and effective in getting vaccines out and into arms, so we can begin to get back to where we were," LaFond said.

She said they received about 4,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for the Lambeau site this week. It's the first time they've administered the Johnson & Johnson vaccine along with the Pfizer vaccine to patients.

While LaFond said they've been going through those doses quickly, she said more availability of the vaccine is helping meet the pent up demand.

"Now it feels like we're finally hitting a spot where we can balance the demand and access a little easier, at least within a week to 10 days," LaFond said. "Sometimes we had people on the schedule for months ahead when this first came just with the amount of allocation.

LaFond said they expect to receive about 4,000 COVID-19 doses next week as well.

People can sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at Lambeau Field online or by calling the Bellin COVID-19 hotline at 920-445-7313.
