CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. — Chippewa Falls police confirmed a 10-year-old girl, who had been missing since Sunday, was found dead along a hiking trail in a wooded area on Monday.

The Chief of the Chippewa Falls Police Department, Matthew Kelm, said during a news briefing that the incident is considered a homicide. No one is in custody.

Investigators previously found what they believed to be her abandoned bike near the Leinenkugel's brewery plant Sunday evening.

Police said in a statement she is a 4th grader at Parkview Elementary. She was last seen at her aunt's home on North Grove Street.

Police later found her bicycle a short distance from her aunt's home near Grove Street and the Leinenkugel's brewery.

UPDATE: Due to revelations learned during court proceedings and the extreme sensitivity of this case, NBC 26 has made the editorial decision not to name or show pictures of the victim.
