KAUKAUNA, Wis. — One of the 78 vetoes rolled into Governor Evers' budget Wednesday was to improve the Veterans Memorial Lift Bridge in Kaukauna.

To secure funding to make the bridge operational would save the City of Kaukauna taxpayers $1.76 million dollars. But, Wednesday, Governor Evers vetoed that part of the state's budget. Kaukauna mayor, Tony Penterman says the city was banking on those dollars.

"We were really disappointed. In the City of Kaukauna we expected, (sic) we thought we were going to get $1.76 million to rehabilitate the bridge. It was really disappointing when we found out that he had vetoed that part of the budget," says mayor Penterman.

He says the city will continue to work with state legislators to help fund the rehabilitation of the Veterans Memorial Lift Bridge.
