DE PERE (NBC 26) -- The mayor of De Pere announced Friday he was diagnosed with COVID-19 this week.
In a statement posted on the city's Facebook page, Mayor James Boyd said he had developed a cough and severe fatigue in recent days, and got tested for coronavirus following an urging from health officials. Mayor Boyd said he was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday.
Boyd said while he doesn't feel well, he's currently resting and isolating.
"I hope by sharing this personal news, if you are experiencing even the mildest symptoms, you will consider testing," the mayor said in a statement.
The mayor also said no city operations will be affected because of his diagnosis.
