Marquette University officials unveiled plans Monday to demolish a campus mainstay --- McCormick Hall, and build two new residence halls.
The $96 million, 750 bed project is slated to break ground later this year, and will include two connected residence halls between 17th and 18th and Wells St.
The new residence halls will feature pod and suite-like amenities, according to university officials.
"We have to think and act differently and embrace new ways of living and learning for our community," said University President Michael R. Lovell.
The new dorms which are expected to be open before the 2018-2019 academic year, will be funded through cash reserves, funds from the university’s capital budget and debt financing.
The new development includes larger dining facilities with additional dining options. The dining areas will feature increased seating capacity, and be open for extended hours.
Upon completion of the new residential development, the university will offer nine open residence halls, with approximately 3,700 beds for undergraduate students.
