APPLETON (NBC 26) -- A death in Appleton that involved a police response is now under investigation.
According to the Appleton Police Department, officers responded to a call at around 2 a.m. Monday on the 600 block of West Verbrick Street. The call was for a 37 year-old man who had a seizure and had possibly stopped breathing. Police said an investigation revealed the man had been using cocaine.
The man was treated and taken to a hospital. He was released a short time later.
Around 4:48 a.m., Appleton Police were called again to the same home. Police said the man's wife called, saying her husband was having another seizure and was being aggressive. Police said they secured the man and medical personnel arrived to treat him, but he died at the scene.
Appleton Police said in a news release there is nothing to indicate that any officers played a role in the man's death. But, because officers were involved with the man at the time of his death, Appleton Police have asked an outside organization to investigate. Green Bay Police will conduct an independent investigation and the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office has been notified.
Police are not releasing any more information at this time.
