Today the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced that four Wisconsin educators have been named finalists for a national award in teaching.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is considered the highest award given by the U.S. government in those fields for teachers and one of the finalists just so happens to be from Northeast Wisconsin.

"I'm feeling surprised and excited at the same time because it's not just about me, it’s about the program that we have here,” Jessica Meacham, an elementary STEAM teacher at Southern Door Elementary.

Meacham said that part of the process of applying for the award was having to videotape herself teaching, which allowed her to focus on her goals.
