DE PERE (WGBA) It's a job not everyone wants to do. It's one that almost grantees enemies if something goes wrong.

Rod Ottens has been a referee of soccer for 22 years. As an official he has had is ups and downs, but knows this job is not for everyone.

"The hardest part is calling something than going back and seeing video that showed it should have been called different," Ottens said.

They are there to make the game safe and fair for both teams. However, they are highly competitive, and tempers can flare and be aimed right at the referee.

"It is a given we are going to make mistakes." Ottens said. "If was 100% every time, I wouldn't be here. I would be at the professional level."

Ottens helps mentor other young officials. When a mistake gets made from an official, he says it is best to admit it and move on

"It is ok, just as long as you reflect, and hopefully correct that mistake," Ottens said.
