BELLEVUE/ASHWAUBENON (NBC 26) -- As many parents begin going back to the office, they're faced with the question of: who’s going to watch my kids while I’m at work?
The Village of Bellevue is helping with another option parents can look into.
With all of the unknowns about the coronavirus pandemic, some parents might not be able to send their kids back to daycare, or maybe it’s just too expensive; so finding a babysitter might be the best next option.
This weekend, Bellevue is offering a babysitter training course. It is limited in size, as they've cut back to half their normal capacity, in part due to the pandemic.
“It’s a program that has not typically run in the past. We just haven't gotten enough interest typically in the past,” said Kyle Casper, the Recreation Supervisor. “But because this class, mostly in the spring has been cancelled, I think there's been a lot more interest this time around; it actually filled up in a hurry.”
Kids will learn about the fundamentals of childcare like feeding, changing diapers and child safety. Casper adds, depending on the instructor’s availability and the amount of interest, they'll look into hosting more training in the future.
Other opportunities for kids to become a safe babysitter include the Center for Childhood Safety. Tuesday, they announced their site in Ashwaubenon has become a Registered Safe Sitter Teaching Site. They are now able to offer a life and safety training program for young teens, grades 6-8.
The Center said the program will help kids learn how to prevent injuries and handle emergencies when home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. To learn more, click here.
