A business fire in Brown County sent a large plume of smoke over I-41 near Miners Way.
The address of the business where the fire broke out was listed on Mid Valley Drive in De Pere. The Town of Lawerence Fire Department responded.
Drivers passing by on I-41 called in the fire which prompted a response from Lawerence firefighters. Heavy smoke was coming from the building.
When fire crews arrived, they saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of the building. As crews began to enter the building to verify no one was inside, the building began to collapse, causing the crews to pull back. Firefighters were able to confirm with the business owner that no one was in the building.
Crews then worked to keep the fire from spreading.
The smoke billowed over onto the highway of I-41. The smoke caused traffic to slow down, and a fire official said there was at least one traffic crash reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
