GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Port of Green Bay is urging caution to participants in a political boat rally slated for this weekend.
Officials with the Port of Green Bay say a large freighter will be in the port at the same time the rally is scheduled to take place.
“We simply want to provide a heads up to rally participants and ask for their cooperation in giving a wide berth to the freighter,” explained Port Director Dean Haen. “It shouldn’t be a problem if the boaters understand that large ships need room and cannot stop on a dime. It will help ensure everyone’s safety.”
Port officials say under U.S. law, smaller vessels are required to steer clear and yield the way for larger vessels that may not be able to stop or maneuver quickly in a narrow channel.
A flotilla supporting President Trump is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at the mouth of the Fox River.
