KAUKAUNA — The Assistant Chief of the Kaukauna Fire Department is voicing gratitude to his fellow firefighters for a display of solidarity.
Chad Gerrits said his wife, Jennifer, was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer that has moved into her lung. Jennifer's treatment has caused her to lose all her hair. While she was in chemotherapy treatment Thursday, the City of Kaukauna Fire Department sent a photo showing the entire fire department with shaved heads in honor of Jennifer.
"I am both humbled and honored to work beside these gentleman and value their commitment to serving our community everyday," Chad Gerrits writes on the Fire Department's Facebook. "It is easy to forget what these professionals have going on in their own lives but still answer that call through it all."
Gerrits writes the cancer diagnosis has reiterated how truly blessed they are.
