GREEN BAY (NBC26) — 'Jelly Bean' is one of the Wisconsin Humane Society's newest cats up for adoption.
“She was found as a stray on the highway near the Velp Avenue exit," said Shaina Allen, Marketing Coordinator for the Green Bay and Door County campuses. "She had abrasions on her feet and was missing some toenails and was in rough shape.“
This kitten is proof of the value of fosters, said Allen.
“She is one of the many animals that has spent time in one of our loving foster homes," she said. "And she is now ready for adoption.“
Spring and into summer, shelters take in a lot of kittens as surrenders or strays, which means the need for fosters is high. Many of the kittens the humane society takes in are anywhere from zero to four weeks old, so having fosters is a huge help, said Allen. It prevents small kittens from being exposed to any illnesses that might be at a shelter, and it means there’s more room in the shelter for animals that need specialized care.
“It allows them time to grow in a stress free environment," said Allen. "They get a lot of socialization from their foster families.“
The shelter has received an outpouring of support over the past year, and Allen hopes people continue signing up to be fosters.
“Fosters really do save lives," she said.
If you have any interest in fostering at all, the Humane Society will be having a virtual information session on May 12th. They are also always looking for donations and have an Amazon wishlist with items they are in need of.
